Hanne Coeckelberghs

by | Aug 18, 2025 | Aerials Weekend Karlsruhe #4, Artists

Born in Belgium in 1997, Hanne started circus at 10 years old when her parents gifted her a unicycle for her birthday. She liked it and started to go to a local youth circus school right after where she learned many circus techniques like juggling, walking on a ball, diabolo etc. Than in 2009 she discovered she could learn aerial silks in her youth circus school which she started immediately and fell in love with it. She started training first 1 time a week, but each year more and more and at age 16, she was training every day, saw performances of professional aerialists and knew from that moment she wanted to become a professional circus artist as well, even though she was a good student at school, mainly at science and mathematics. So many of her hours of studies got replaced by hours of training and at 18 years old, she auditioned for several professional circus schools. She got taken in The Academy For Circus And Performance Arts (ACAPA) in Tilburg, Netherlands. In this school, they never took aerial silks because it wasn’t interesting enough for them, most people in silks were doing drops and splits, but Hanne wanted to prove the school wrong that silks can be different, so when she went to school, she integrated many rope and straps tricks into her routines and developed her own unique way of moving. She also started to invent her own tricks and combinations and many of those she is now teaching in her workshops. During her years in school, she also learned straps, which she likes as a discipline on its own but it’s also very useful to get better and stronger in silks. When she graduated circus school after 4 years, she started teaching a lot of workshops worldwide and performing on many different shows like events, theme parks, winter shows, contemporary circus shows and festivals. Now, many years later, she is still as passionated about aerials and she still tries to get better and better, and she loves sharing her knowledge with others.
