Ella Hummel

by | Aug 18, 2025 | Aerials Weekend Karlsruhe #4, Artists

Ella is a multidisciplinary aerialist originally from Munich in Germany. In lack of a teacher, she decided to teach herself aerial silks autodidactic before shifting focus on aerial rope. In 2019 she started her studies at the Academy For Circus And Performance Arts (ACAPA) in Tilburg, Netherlands before transferring to specialize in aerial straps at the Scuola di Circo FLIC in Torino, Italy. Whilst learning aerial straps she was asked to teach aerial rope for the “Royale societa di ginnastica di Torino” and expended her teaching practice all across Europe (Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Turkey, Belgium and more).
She recently graduated from the École superieure des Arts du cirque (ésac) in Brussels with aerial straps. Whilst she does enjoy creating, performing and working as technician as well as being a performing artist, she still feels like teaching is her main passion. Her approach is to work with each individual student and help them reach their specific goals. Adapting skills to different body types and working in regards to biomechanics and anatomy. And understanding the underlying techniques and physics behind the tricks.

Workshops

Aerial Rope – Beginner (Friday, 14.11.2025 16:30 – 18:30)

Level: Beginner +

This workshop is aimed towards aerialists (especially silks practitioners) who would like to try out aerial rope. We will work on some basic shapes and sequences, and discover the different possibilities a rope offers.

Who can join? All aerialists that can do at least one basic climb, at least one invert (bent arms & legs).

Straps – Meathooks & Backflags (Friday, 14.11.2025 19:00 – 21:00)

Level: Beginner+

In this Workshop we will focus on the basic positions on aerial straps such as meathook, nutcracker, flags and backlever. We will work on different prep exercises and understanding the correct engagements to safely practice these positions and move through them.

Who can join? Anyone with prior aerial experience on any apparatus. All aerialists that can do at least one clean invert and one pull-up feet off the floor.

Aerial Rope – Introduction to Dynamics (Saturday, 15.11.2025 10:30 – 12:30)

Level: Beginner+

An entry to the wonderful world of dynamics. Dynamics, aka swings, play a huge role in aerial rope. Due to its better grip and lower elasticity in comparison to aerial silks, the rope makes it easier to understand the correct rhythm and alignment within swings. We will work on front/back, side/side, bell and plank swings as well as tricks in and out of them.

Who can join? All aerialists that can do at least 20 sec hanging from 2 arms, at least one invert.

Straps – Swings and Beats (Saturday, 15.11.2025 16:30 – 18:30)

Level: Beginner+

Aerial straps are fun? Definitely! Swinging on aerial straps is probably the most fun thing to practice on this apparatus. As we don’t need to worry about weak grip or getting caught up in silks or rope with our feet, it’s the perfect apparatus to fly high and improve swinging technique which will be useful for any other aerial apparatus.

Who can join? All aerialists that can do at least one invert. Prior swinging experience is a plus but not a must.

Straps – Beginner (Sunday, 16.11.2025 16:30 – 18:00)

Level: Beginner+

Aerial straps aside from just doing strength based skills. This workshop is aimed to diversify Straps vocabulary and show different beginner friendly poses and movements.

Who can join? All aerialists that can do at least one invert.
